TEL AVIV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 2004--Tissera, Inc. (OTCBB:TSSR
- News), a
biotechnology company dedicated to the development and commercialization
of tissue transplantation therapies utilizing novel tissue precursor
regeneration technologies for the treatment of disease and organ
transplantation, today announced the completion of an equity private
placement with a group of individual and institutional investors
representing gross proceeds to the Company of $5.5 million.
Tissera is advancing the field of transplantation and tissue regeneration technologies. The growth and development of human organ precursors in Tissera's research facilities are expected to improve and lengthen the lives of tens of thousands of people in need of donor tissue and organs to treat a broad spectrum of fatal illnesses in the near future. According to Dr. Vicki Rabenou, CEO of Tissera, "This investment will enable us to continue our critical research and development over the next 18-24 months to prepare our discoveries for pre-clinical and eventually, the first clinical trials in humans. The medical community is well aware that there is a shortage of viable transplant organs today and thousands of people die each year waiting for an organ." "The work that Tissera is doing today offers tremendous promise in organogenesis for the purpose of organ replacement," continued Rabenou. "We are concentrating all of our efforts into achieving this goal to minimize the need for immunosuppressive drugs and potentially eliminate the need to wait years for organ transplantation for critical patients." About Tissera Tissera is a biotechnology company dedicated to the development of novel tissue precursor regeneration technologies for treating gene deficiencies and diseases in which organ transplantation is necessary, while minimizing the dosage of immunosuppressive drugs. Tissera licensed the worldwide exclusive rights to the technology developed at the renown Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel led by Professor Yair Reisner. In this research, scientists successfully implanted embryonic human and porcine kidney precursor tissues in mice, which grew into functional kidneys. This research was published in Nature Medicine and attracted worldwide scientific and media attention.
