reports that Prof. Yair Reisner, Director of Tissera's sponsored
research at the Weizmann Institute of Science and Chairman of the
company's Advisory Scientific Board, has been awarded the
prestigious Abish-Frenkel Prize for Excellence in the Life Sciences
at the International Stem Cell Symposium, held at the Weizmann
Institute on November 28-29, 2004.
As part of the Prize Lecture given by
Prof. Reisner at the Symposium, he presented new data demonstrating
the efficacy of transplanted porcine fetal pancreatic tissue,
harvested within a defined specific gestational time window, in
achieving cure of diabetic mice.
Prof. Reisner further indicated that
he intends to implement this approach in large animal models, in
collaboration with the Transplantation Division of the Department of
Surgery of the University of Minnesota.
