Giuseppe Remuzzi, Director of the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research, to Serve on Tissera’s Scientific Advisory Board

 

TEL AVIV, Israel - April 20, 2004 - Tissera, Inc. (OTCBB:TSSR), a biotechnology company dedicated to the development and commercialization of tissue transplantation therapies utilizing novel tissue precursor regeneration technologies for the treatment of disease and organ transplantation, today announced the appointment of Professor Giuseppe Remuzzi, M.D. F.R.C.P., to the company’s Scientific Advisory Board . In addition, Barbara Imberti, will serve as Dr. Remuzzi’s assistant on the Scientific Advisory Board.

 

Dr. Remuzzi currently serves as the Director of the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research of the Negri Bergamo Laboratories, and Director of the Department of Nephrology and Dialysis at the Ospedali Riuniti of Bergamo Hospital in Bergamo, Italy. Prior to his current role, Dr. Remuzzi was appointed to Professor of Nephrology and Director of the Division of Immunology and Organ Transplantation at the same hospital.  Dr. Imberti works closely with Dr. Remuzzi at the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in the Cell Biology and Xenotransplantation Laboratory in the field of stem cell tissue engineering.

 

Throughout his career, Dr. Remuzzi was instrumental in major advances in many areas of nephrology, with particular focus on platelet endothelial interactions, vascular prostaglandin biology, coagulation and renal disease, progression of renal disease, experimental models of glomerular damage, and transplant immunology and graft tolerance.

Dr. Remuzzi has authored more than 700 scientific articles, reviews and monographs and serves on editorial boards of numerous journals including the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine and is member of the International Advisory Board of The Lancet. In recognition of his achievements, he has been awarded in 1998 honorary memberships in the Association of American Physicians and the British Royal College of Physicians. In 2001 he was nominated Chairman of the Research Committee of the COMGAN (Commission on Global Advancement of Nephrology) of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN).
